Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Brian Forrester
What inspired you to write “Color the Sky with Song”?
Forrester: "Color The Sky With Song" was inspired by C.S. Lewis's books, especially the Narnia series. Those stories really sparked my imagination when I was young and showed me the power of storytelling.
How did you come up with the names of your main characters?
Forrester: Honestly, I'm not sure where ideas come from! But I do try to give characters unique names so readers don't mix them up. I also like picking names that somehow fit the character's personality.
Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?
Forrester: This is my third book overall, but the second one I've published. My first published book is "The Jungle Within" for young adults. "Color The Sky With Song" is for slightly younger readers, more middle-grade.
Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?
Forrester: My advice for new writers? Learn the basics of how stories work and how to pace them. Once you know the rules, you can break them if you want.
What is your favorite genre, book, and/or author?
Forrester: I love reading low-fantasy and sci-fi. My favorite book is "Ready Player One," and my top authors are C.S. Lewis and Roald Dahl.
What are you working on next?
Forrester: Right now, I'm working on the first book I ever tried to write. It was too hard for me back then (10 yrs ago), but now that I've gotten a little better, I'm tackling it again. We'll see.
