Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Carole P. Roman
What inspired you to write “Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex”?
Roman: My sons and I were kicking around a few ideas. We are all authors. My son came up with the idea of a superhero high school, then decided not to use it. I asked if he minded if I took it and fleshed it out. We do that- exchange ideas all the time. He was fine and Grady Whill was born!
How did you come up with the names of your main characters?
Roman: I have a friend named Grady and I asked if he minded if I used his name. I knew I was using the name Whill because I wanted to do a play on the name Whillpower.
Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?
Roman: I write very quickly. I never know how a story will turn out. I let the characters tell me.
What is your favorite genre, book, and/or author?
Roman: I love historical fiction. James Clavell, Phillipa Gregory, Jodi Piccoult, Tracey Chevalier.
What are you working on next?
Roman: I just finished Giggles Galore, a fun-filled jokebook. I have a Friendgiving book for Thanksgiving coming up for the holiday. I have a garden picture book in the process of being illustrated. I just finished a picture book with world-famous medium, Thomas John, about children with special abilities. Two other picture books are in the works.
