Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Elena Greyrock

Book Title:  Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine

Released:  02/04/21

Genre:  Romance Novella

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine”?

Greyrock: I was sitting across from a gorgeous young couple cozied up on a train. They looked like Luna and Stryker, they were wearing masks and sharing a set of corded headphones (one in each opposite ear) They were resting their heads against each other listening to music on the guy’s iPhone. The young couple were smiling with their eyes, lost in bliss and oblivion. I began imagining what being in love must be like in times of COVID.

How did you come up with the names of your main characters?

Greyrock: Luna James: I was in a Starbucks and there was a group of young women talking and obsessing over a woman they all kind of knew/ thought they knew/ and were dying to know more about.  From their conversation she sounded stunning, yet elusive.  They kept using her first name, and that name was Luna.

Stryker Caine: Stryker Caine is a real name of a friend’s workmate.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?

Greyrock: Yes! I have a blog on Medium.com.  Many of my stories/blog posts have been picked up by Medium publications. Check it out here https://elenagreyrock.medium.com/

During the time I wrote “Six Feet Apart: Love In Quarantine” much of what people dealt with in the pandemic had not even happened (evolving viruses, proof of vaccination papers). It is sad much of what was in my imagination about living life in a pandemic came true.

If "Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine" was adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Greyrock: I think no well-known actors would do Luna & Stryker justice. The movie about my book calls for undiscovered actors that would have the audience spellbound by their uncanny good looks before they even spoke any lines, lol.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Greyrock: When I have writer’s block the very hardest thing for me is convincing myself to just sit down and start writing. Because the weird thing is, once I begin writing it always flows with ease like playing an instrument.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Greyrock:

·   Use the read aloud feature in Word to listen to your writing before you publish

·   Use anonymous beta readers as family and friends can be biased

· Read more books, read different genres you think you won’t like. Real writers read.

What is your favorite genre, book, and/or author?

Greyrock: I read rom-coms (Sophie Ranald series) and more recently thrillers that are not gory (The Plot, The Paris Apartment). In my humble opinion the best contemporary literary author and book out there is “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett. Her writing is magical!

What are you working on next?

Greyrock: I am working on Book 2 in the Luna James series - a romantic thriller. In this book I write about Luna’s and Stryker’s back stories. You will find out why they are the way they are.  Plus, there will be more interesting characters and the unexpected!

Thank you for to those who read "Six Feet Apart: Love in Quarantine", I truly appreciate it. I hope you all enjoyed it and will continue reading about Luna & Stryker’s journey in my next book.
