Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Vicki Coppen

Book Title:  June

Released:  03/15/23

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “June”?

Coppen: I have always enjoyed writing but had never taken the time to really sit down and do it. After I retired, I took the time to put a story that was in my head to paper.

How did you come up with the names of your main characters?

Coppen: I tried to come up with names that were unique in that they wouldn't reflect on anyone I have worked with.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?

Coppen: I write like an emergency nurse- short and to the point. I tried to add "fluff" but it just wasn't me.

If "June" was adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Coppen:  I would just be happy it was adapted to a movie!

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Coppen: I didn't have a timeline for the book, so I just waited until I was in the mood to write. It was helpful that I had the basic storyline already in my head.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Coppen: My tip to myself for future books is to write for me. I can't worry about money or what anyone else thinks; I just need to write for me.

What is your favorite genre, book, and/or author?

Coppen: I read romance, military history (fiction and non-fiction), auto-biographies and some mystery. WEB Griffin is my go-to author, but I really enjoy most books.

What are you working on next?

Coppen: I have a stand-alone sequel to June about her co-worker Belle. Belle becomes a flight nurse and I am writing about her adventures. I have another book after that which will be a romance based in the WWII era.
