Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Shari Sakurai
What inspired you to write “Adam”?
Sakurai: There is quite a lot of Adam’s backstory that is not covered in the main Perfect World series which is relevant to the series as whole. So I decided that rather than try to work all this in, it would be better to write a standalone companion novel. Despite being set before the events of the Perfect World series, it fits in after book one and as well as covering Adam’s backstory it sets some of the events up for later books in the series.
Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process, or your book?
Sakurai: The Perfect World series is set one hundred years in the future and as well as telling the story of the characters, I wanted to convey the importance of preventing climate change in today’s world as well as the dangers and ethical issues surrounding the manipulation of human genetics.
If "Adam" were adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?
Sakurai: I have thought about it a lot and I would prefer to see the roles go to unknown or just starting out actors as I would hope that the casting would help get them noticed.
What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?
Sakurai: My favourite genres are paranormal, science fiction and fantasy. I basically write what I love to read! A series I read recently that has stayed in my mind is the Light from Aphelion series by Martine Carlsson. It is an amazing historical fantasy series which I can highly recommend!
What are you working on next?
Sakurai: I’ve just finished book three in my Perfect World series so I will be making a start on book four. I am also currently writing book three in my Demon’s Blood universe so I will be carrying on with that too!
