Released:  June 2020

Genre:  NA fantasy fiction/Mystery

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “Once Upon a Werewolf”?

Kylar: I took a road trip with two of my good friends to the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky - purely for "research" - when I was about to write my entry novel into the mystery genre. When I got home and looked over all of the notes we took, the idea I initially had ended up fizzling out. What replaced it was something more solid and, though my research notes weren't as helpful as originally planned, it ended up working out for the best. Magic is everywhere in a beautiful Kentucky landscape!

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process, or your book?

Kylar: I always put as much of my heart and passion into my work as possible. I know that incomes are limited and that to make a choice to purchase a book, readers have to deliberate on what feels worth it. I don't take that lightly and make sure that they truly enjoy taking a chance on my writing.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Kylar: Writer's block has always been an enemy of mine because I get distracted so easily. Once I get it, most of the day can be theoretically shot. I tend to do small things to keep my focus and ensure that I don't get pulled away from my writing. Phone off, concentration music on, a quiet place where it's just me and my laptop.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Have a thick skin. Sometimes, you'll put all of your energy into a book and it will turn out to be a dud. I've had plenty of ideas that got scrapped during the writing process. Be able to take criticism from other authors in the field who are successful with their work, learn from them, and drop the ego. In a world where everything can be published in the indie genre, you have to stand out and listen to your potential readers.

What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?

Kylar: I am a huge fan of the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer and love the humorous mysteries of Janet Evanovich.

What are you working on next?

Kylar: The second installment of my Abigail Everlaine series - "A Tale of Two Courts" - comes out on October 17th! After that, I'll be putting out a Christmas novella with a humorous werewolf theme which I hope my readers will enjoy. I'm always looking ahead...I'm always at work on something new!
