Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with CM Francis

Book Title: The Day I Died

Released:  08/24/21

Genre:  YA Coming-of-Age

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “The Day I Died”?

Francis: When I was 17, I had a brain aneurysm. I survived, but it was a lot of work. I wanted to tell my story to inspire people who may have something like this.

If "The Day I Died" were adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Francis: Well, to play my dad, he would love to be played by George Clooney, but I can picture him as Owen Wilson. Catherine Zeta-Jones would play my mother. As for the lead character, I would have to say Sabrina Carpenter.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Francis: I would start another project.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Francis: Don't listen to everything you hear, other than your editors.

What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?

Francis: Before I Fall, They Both Died in the End, and Thirteen Reasons Why. My favorite author is Colleen Hoover, because she started as a self publisher author.

What are you working on next?

Francis: I have two other books: One Term Left and The Night at Times Square. Currently, I am working on The Gap Year.
