Book Title:  EO-N

Released:  10/01/20

Genre:  Historical Fiction

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “EO-N”?

Mason: I was basically looking for a way to disconnect my brain from business and the 24-hour news cycle. Someone suggested writing, and although I haven't written for fun since I was about 8 years old, I figured I'd give it a shot. A few months later I'd accidentally written a novel.

How did you come up with the names of your main characters?

Mason: Not entirely sure, to be honest. I think I imagined who they were, then gave them names I thought would fit their personalities and character traits.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?

Mason: Hmmm... that sounds scary. Does any of it have to be true?

If "EO-N" were adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Mason: Great question. I've had numerous readers contact me with suggestions on this, and some of them have been, in my opinion, excellent choices. So I have thoughts, but would prefer not to say. I'd rather let readers imagine the possibilities and keep my fingers crossed for an actual casting session one day!

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Mason: I stop thinking and just keep writing. It doesn't matter if what I write lives or dies.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Mason: I honestly don't feel qualified to be offering any tips (total rookie here!) other than this: if you write something you think is okay, ask people who will tell you the truth about what they think of it. If they think it's okay too, hire the best editor you can find. Then hire beta readers you don't know.

What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?

Mason: Tough question. I enjoy everything from science fiction to literary fiction to narrative non-fiction. Favorite books? Johnny Got His Gun, Slaughterhouse Five, Riddley Walker, Rule of the Bone, The Eight, The Time of Light, The Colony of Unrequited Dreams, Goodbye Mickey Mouse, Over the Edge of the World, The Shipping News, Warlight, etc. etc. Too many authors to even think about!

What are you working on next?

Mason: Currently noodling on another historical mystery-ish story. Will it be any good? Who knows? Is it fun to write? Absolutely!
