Heather’s Bookshelf: Author Interview with Gail Meath
What inspired you to write “Fire Blossom”?
Meath: In elementary school, I read the true story about Mary Jemison (1743-1833) and was fascinated by the book. She was taken captive by the Seneca Indians in New York State as a youth and grew to love her new family so much, years later when she was offered the opportunity to return home, she chose to stay with the Seneca Indians until her death. The theme of my book is that there is no ‘bad’ culture…only bad people.
Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process, or your book?
Meath: I nearly failed history in high school then realized later that I love doing historical research. I now blame my history teacher for not making history more interesting!
What are you working on next?
Meath: I have another book coming out in the Fall that takes place on the Erie Canal and I’m currently working on the true story of a very courageous, yet not-so-known Spanish heroine during the Napoleon war.
