Genre:  Historical Romance Novel & Prequel Novella

Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “Bitter Destiny and Bitter Bonds”?

Osborne: Bitter Bonds sparked from a minor storyline in one of my police procedural novels, Misfortune. The special agent in the novel, Rae Hatting, was investigating a series of murders in New Orleans. The concept expanded from there with Bitter Destiny as the prequel. There is also a second book, Divided Destiny, in the works which will take place during the American Civil War and bring the events of Bitter Bonds and Bitter Destiny full circle.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process, or your book?

Osborne: I am basically a pantser when I write, as in, I fly by the seat of my pants! I love exploring the cultural/social side of history more than I do the political/war side, but I recognize that the two can often intermix.

If "Bitter Destiny and Bitter Bonds" were adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Osborne: That’s a hard one! I can’t quite think of anyone I would want to play my characters off the top of my head! I will certainly have to consider this and maybe make a pinterest board when I come up with the right people.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Osborne: Honestly? I tend to wait it out. There’s always something to spark inspiration when you least expect it. I don’t like to force myself to write, as it’s likely I’ll just remove it later.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Osborne: Don’t force yourself to churn out one book after another. You’ll eventually burn out. Write what you love, and make your book count, even if it’s just to you. Always write what you’re proud of.

What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?

Osborne: My favorite genre is (surprise, surprise) historical romance. I’m a major fan of the ‘older’ historical romance authors, such as Kathleen E Woodwiss, Beatrice Small, and Virginia Henley.

What are you working on next?

Osborne: Currently, I’m working on a few projects, namely, a psychological thriller, the sequel to Bitter Bonds, the second book in a new police procedural series, and a women’s fiction novel. I write what suits me at the time, and I’ve found having a wide range allows me to chip away at different genres when I get bored of another.
