Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told”?

Colon: The inspiration behind The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told came from my love of comic books, superheroes, and stories that explore what it truly means to be a hero. I wanted to create something that went beyond powers and battles and focused on the emotional side of heroism — overcoming pain, finding purpose, and discovering strength within yourself. The story is really about the battles we face internally and how our experiences shape who we become.

How did you come up with the names of your main characters?

Colon: The names of my characters came from a mixture of imagination, meaning, and the feeling I wanted each character to represent. I wanted the names to feel memorable while matching the personalities and journeys of the people within the story. For me, characters begin as ideas, but their names help give them an identity and bring them closer to becoming real.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process or your book?

Colon: I want readers to know that my writing comes from a place of imagination, emotion, and curiosity about the human experience. I often explore themes like identity, purpose, friendship, grief, and hope. My writing process usually begins with an idea or a feeling that grows into a larger story. I believe stories have the ability to connect with people, inspire them, and remind them that they are not alone in what they experience.

If "The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told" was adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Colon: For an adaptation, I would love to see actors who can capture both the emotional depth and the larger-than-life feeling of the story. For Sonny Forever, I would want someone who can portray vulnerability, determination, and the journey of becoming a hero. I would be excited to see a talented young actor bring that balance of heart and strength to the character. More than a specific name, I think finding someone who truly understands Sonny’s emotional journey would be the most important part.

If you could have dinner with any character you’ve written, who would it be — and what would you talk about?

Colon: I would choose Sonny Forever from The Greatest Comic Book Tale Ever Told. I would want to talk with him about his journey, the challenges he faced, and what he learned about himself along the way. I think it would be interesting to hear his perspective because, in many ways, characters teach their creators something too.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Colon: When I experience writer’s block, I usually step away and allow myself to experience the world around me. Sometimes inspiration comes from conversations, music, walking, observing people, or simply letting my imagination wander. I’ve learned that creativity cannot always be forced — sometimes you have to give ideas time to return naturally.

What’s the weirdest or most unexpected place you’ve gotten a story idea from?

Colon: Some of my ideas come from unexpected everyday moments. A simple observation, a conversation, a memory, or even a random thought can spark the beginning of a story. I think creativity is always happening around us — sometimes we just have to pay attention.

What is your favorite genre, book, and/or author?

Colon: My favorite genres are fantasy, science fiction, superhero stories, and stories that explore deeper questions about humanity. I have always admired authors who can combine imagination with meaningful themes. Some of my inspirations come from creators like Stan Lee, J.R.R. Tolkien, and writers who build worlds while exploring the human condition.

What are you working on next?

Colon: Right now, I am continuing to focus on writing more books and expanding my creative universe. I’m always exploring new ideas, characters, and stories that allow me to share different perspectives and experiences with readers. My goal is to continue creating stories that inspire imagination while exploring what it means to be human.
