Interview by Heather L. Barksdale

What inspired you to write “Blood & Bone”?

Dombrowiak: I was watching a TV show about a country music star and the relationship between her and the guitar player in her band was very intriguing. It got me thinking about relationships and flawed people and what it would be like to have a bond so strong with someone that it became the catalyst to imploding everything else around you. I love complicated relationships and flawed characters.

Is there anything that you want readers to know about you, your writing process, or your book?

Dombrowiak: I’m a mood writer, so it took me a really long time to finish Blood and Bone. Now I’ve set a goal for myself to publish book 2 at the end of November so I’m struggling trying to stick to a deadline. It’s a learning curve for me. The best thing bout self publishing is that you can set your own deadline and move it if you need to.

How did you come up with the names of your main characters?

Dombrowiak: Jack O’Donnell just screams rockstar to me. Mia Stone is more of a demure personality and to me the name Mia encompassed that vibe.

Are there any tips that you would like to share with other aspiring authors?

Dombrowiak: I used to think you had to get a publishing deal to write a book but discovering self publishing has made my dreams come true. I have wanted to be a writer probably my whole life. If that is your dream, don’t put yourself in a box. You have to make it happen. There is a story for everyone.

When you encounter writer’s block, what do you do to break yourself out of it?

Dombrowiak: I listen to music. It is my inspiration for everything.

If "Blood & Bone" were adapted into a movie, who would you like to see cast to play your lead characters?

Dombrowiak: Jack O’Donnell is loosely based off of Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain. I picture him as a brooding angsty guy, more of an Eddie Vedder type. Mia Stone, I immediately thought of Hope Sandoval from Mazzie Starr. She has those same qualities as Mia.

What is your favorite book, genre, and/or author?

Dombrowiak: I’m a sucker for Young Adult Fantasy. There’s something about world building that I find fascinating. I love Maggie Stiefvater, Cassandra Clare, Kristin Cashore. I also love romance books and have discovered authors like Saffron Kent and Penelope Douglas that I really enjoy.

What are you working on next?

Dombrowiak: I am working on Book 2, currently untitled, in the Blood and Bone series which focuses on Jack O'Donnell and Erin Langford. It explores the aftermath of Jack writing his book, the redemption of a person who has impacted so many people. It’s steamy, heartbreaking and will give you all the feels.
