“This was the final nail in the coffin that Noah had been trying to stop. Once it spilled over from revenge, it became a passion; an urge to kill. The Serial Killer was now more than just a vigilante for misdeeds that had befallen them; they were now truly dangerous and potentially, nobody was safe.”

“The Daemon’s Wish” takes place in the year 2410 when humanity has colonized Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. Crime has been at an all-time low until bodies start turning up, killed in gruesome and distinctive ways.

Noah Peterson, a profiler and investigative specialist, is assigned to assist the police in the cases, but he has medical conditions (seizures and migraines) that challenge his ability to focus on the case. To make matters worse, a mysterious set of circumstances result in Noah becoming a suspect on his own case.

As the case progresses and more bodies are found the mystery deepens with evidence pointing both toward and away from Noah as the culprit. His girlfriend, Tess, and a detective working on the case, Alicia, also end up wrapped up in the mystery. Both receive mysterious notes that seem to predict the future. Can Noah find out what’s going on in time?

Trigger Warning: adult language, murder, violence

Overall, I enjoyed this story. The world building was innovative and vibrant from the underwater tunnel to the rainbow rain. However, I felt a lack of connection to the protagonist, Noah. Some of it may have been his confusion and demeanor through much of the story, but I just didn’t connect with him. However, the ancillary characters of Alicia and Tess stood out to me as endearing. I found their connection to the story intriguing and it led me to want to learn more of what was going on. I usually don’t comment on editing issues, but there were quite a few tense and grammatical errors resulting in distraction from the actual content of the story (although the author assures me they have been fixed). I did enjoy the mystery of what was going on, the resolution of why it was happening, and the main characters connection to it all.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

An intriguing mystery with vivid world building and a creative ending but a disconnection to the protagonist.
