Heather’s Bookshelf: Foreign & Domestic
“Foreign & Domestic” follows Cameron “Cam” Grey and a small group of veterans as they are recruited on a special mission.
Overall, I feel like this might have been just not a good fit of a novel for me. I just didn’t feel a connection to any of the characters and felt disjointed through the flipping chapters. The main narrator, Cam, is introduced with bits and pieces of his background strewn throughout out the tale including his wife and various other aspects of his personality. But there’s very little other character background or development. Instead, the tale moves from one intense, weapons-heavy fight scene to the next. I’m a military brat and grew up on bases. Therefore, I’m not completely unfamiliar with military processes, ranks, or acronyms. Having said that, if I had not had such a background, this book would have been unreadable. It is clearly meant for an American military audience without much explanation. The story is book 1 of a series but could be read as a stand alone. The ending does wrap up the tale’s main arc and also sets up for future stories.
I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.
OVERALL REVIEW:
A disjointed weapons-heavy, fight scene dominating tale lacking character development.
