“You had to marvel at the temperament of a man who would run out into a hail of bullets in an effort to shield others from harm. Some would call him a hero. Others might call him crazy.”
“Havall 16” introduces Tommy Canada, a self proclaimed “Mensa smart” co-CEO of a nanotech medical company about to go public. He loves his work, his amazing fiancé, and friends that share his interests. He has every reason to be excited about his future - until the future pays him a visit.
At the start of the journey, Tommy thinks that he might be losing his mind as seemingly impossible messages appear on his bathroom mirror. But then Havall 16 arrives to share her story, convincing Tommy that she is genuine in her mission, and warning him of the consequences of the choices he has yet to make.
After Havall 16 convinces Tommy to join her cause, he enlists the help of his fiancé Zand. The three must work together to save the future and to prevent them from becoming part of the “Havalls” in a world of have-nots. Opposing their cause is Tommy’s best friend and the co-CEO of his company, Win and another visitor from the future, Tucker.
Trigger Warning: Adult language, violence, murder
Overall, I enjoyed this time travel adventure. The way that the author writes Tommy’s point of view and inner thoughts makes the story feel insightful in a way that engages you with the main characters. Tommy’s relationship with Zand is endearing and the references to pop culture were a lot of fun. But it’s the conflict between Tommy and Win and the repercussions of their choices that really make the story. The ending, for me, was a little unresolved and predictable. I didn’t dislike the ending, I was just hoping for something more based on the journey to get there. The journey itself was intriguing and fast paced and I would be interested in reading more from this author in the future (pun intended).
I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.
OVERALL REVIEW:
A fast-paced time travel story to save the future. Great characters interspersed with a lot of humor but a bit predictable at the end.
