Heather’s Bookshelf: Korey Brookes, CIA

Author: Eliza Stopps

Genre:  Crime Short Story

“Korey Brookes, CIA” introduces the title character, a CIA agent who happens to work with her husband, Todd, who also happens to be in the CIA. The couple return from a stressful trip to the middle east and try to refocus on their family.

Korey’s parents have been watching their two grandchildren while she and her husband have been away. Korey hates to be away from her kids, but she knows her job is important too. When their job calls them away sooner than expected, the case turns out to be personal.

The story moved along quickly and held my attention easily. I could see this turning into a series of short stories or a full novel in the future. I had a hard time with the changing points of view and really wished there had been more about the code within the tale, since that was her expertise.

OVERALL REVIEW:

A short story about a husband and wife team of CIA agents with a case that hits a little too close to home

A message from the author:

This short story was created as a collaboration with Pamela from The Picky Bookworm. Pam was my editor for The Disappearance of Susannah Dane and The Absence of Aurelia Perez. She reached out because she wanted to create a character together using a character worksheet that she created. She's also giving this worksheet out for free on her website, so if you are a writer, consider using it to create your own characters!

I wrote Korey Brookes, CIA using the character we created together as a fun project and I'm just giving it out for free right now. If readers like it, I would love to write more of these short stories, so please let me know!

Thanks for reading everyone.

Eliza
