Genre:  YA SciFi Fantasy

“Sadness filled the gaps in her mom’s words. No one knew more than Gwelle why her mom held her tightly when she said goodnight, or why she checked on her, or why she ensured nothing happened to her only daughter. She was the only family Nia Airda had left. It had been smothering at times and had caused a bit of strife between them in her earlier teens, but she understood, now more than ever.”

“Remembrance” introduces Gwelle, a seventeen-year-old girl who also happens to be one of Earth’s last living survivors. She’s been living on the ship Deliverance but her people are now ready to move more to Varax- a possible new home world. But new dangers lurk around every corner and not everything they’ve been taught turns out to be true.

Gwelle’s life is complicated. Her father passed away in a tragic accident leaving her mother to be overbearing and even more overprotective. Raiden, her best friend since forever has broken her heart, but there’s still something there between them that she just can’t shake. She’s been assigned to travel to Varax on a mission in preparation of settlement, but when they get there everything goes wrong.

Gwelle and Raiden have to fight for their lives. Surviving their attack, they are only faced with even bigger and more dangerous threats, secrets, and ghosts from their pasts.

Trigger Warning: death, violence

Overall, I enjoyed this story. The plot moved along quickly but at a rhythm that felt natural. There was not dragging through pages in this book! I kept turning more pages to see what was to happen next. The concept and the mystery components were intriguing as was the new planet of Varax. The main character of Gwelle was relatable and endearing, but some of the ancillary characters were better developed than others. For example, I thought that Raiden could have been better delved out. His identity through most of the book was almost exclusively tied to Gwelle and their past. Don’t get me wrong, their little romantic moments were adorable and lovely. I really liked the emotional connection between the two. The end of the story wraps everything up in a way that did not blow me away but left me satisfied with the tale conclusion as well as the arc of the main characters.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

A fast-paced tale with an intriguing mystery and lead character that wraps everything up nicely by the end.
