Author: Morgan Blake

Released: 10/30/25

Genre:  Pride & Prejudice Variation Story- Paranormal Romance Novella

“Elizabeth suddenly felt exceptionally stupid as she realized—for all her satire and wise speak—she had never truly been wise at all.

Everything had brushed past her like the breeze. Unnoticed. Even when she thought she had noticed.”

“The Cherry Trees of Rosings” is a retelling/variation story of Pride & Prejudice, following Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy.

Elizabeth visits her friend Charlotte at the Hunsford parsonage. Charlotte has recently married and Elizabeth is supporting her friend while enjoying her surroundings. While out in the cherry tree orchards, Elizabeth is shocked to encounter Mr. Darcy who is acting quite strangely. And then Elizabeth walks right through him…

Stunned by the occurrence and confused by what it means, Elizabeth seeks the truth from the only source she can…Mr. Darcy. At first standoffish, the presumed apparition supports her perception of the stoic gentleman she had previously met and dismissed as off-putting. But as the two seek the truth, Elizabeth’s feelings begin to change.

Will Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy find the truth or are they no longer destined to be?

Trigger Warning: illness/injury

Overall, I enjoyed this tale: a sweet little familiar love story with a supernatural twist. Told through Elizabeth’s POV, the story moves along quickly and is written in a way that is easy to read. There’s a seeming presumption of familiarity with the characters and not a lot of time is spent of development of background. (I would recommend reading the original prior to this variation). However, the motivations and major traits of Elizabeth, Darcy, and the main ancillary characters, like Charlotte, are clear through the brief initial interactions. The supernatural component is done in a way that seems both believable and fitting for the time. There’s also enough variation between the original story and this variation to keep the reader guessing about the ending and if Darcy and Elizabeth will get their happy ending. It’s really the interactions between Darcy and Elizabeth that jump off the page. Their chemistry, reliance on each other, and the sense of desperation- it’s captivating and very romantic. Their feelings and evolving relationship develop at a pace that seems natural. However, the end of the story seems rushed and somehow unresolved. I’d love to see this develop into future variations in the future.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

A Pride and Prejudice retelling novella with a supernatural twist. A sweet little love story with enough changes to keep you guessing, but a bit rushed when it came to the ending.
