“The future of his tribe and the human race depended on finding Rawena, and time was running out. Agira had said the lunar eclipse would come on the next full moon. They had less than three weeks to prevent the plague.”

“Celts and the Mad Goddess” introduces you to a world set in 14 AD. While escaping from intruders, Rawena accidentally wakes up the dangerous and terrifying goddess - Pandemia. Rawena seeks the help of her crush, Garux, only to find that he is in love with her sister, Arvasia. Rawena sees this as a betrayal and sets down a path of destruction that threatens to destroy the human race.

When Pandemia is awakened, she uses her power to observe the future. It is there that she observes that her “subjects” and the humans are not living in harmony. She then sets off to seek her own revenge. Rawena finds herself in an impossible situation - indebted to a goddess who would love nothing more than to eradicate the humans from the Earth. The story follows the consequences of this deadly pact along with the seemingly fated and intertwined paths of Rawena and her sister.

This tale is filled with complex relationships and themes. It explores betrayal and loyalty, family and love, and war and plague. The plot is nicely developed and well-paced, weaving between points of view and storylines. All of this leads to an ending that is intriguing for future installments of this chronicle.

Fair Warning: THIS BOOK IS DARK! The themes, concepts, and images can be pretty disturbing at times. It also has some sexually explicit scenes.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. The story has a great flow and I thought the characters of Pandemia and Arvesia were particularly well developed - providing a dichotomy of good and evil that leaves you questioning your alliance to each. However, I would have liked more development of the many sides of Rawena. While she plays a prominent and extremely important role, her personality becomes lost in her obsession with Garux. I look forward to future installments of the deathless chronicles and following what happens with Rawena, Arvesia, Garux, and Pandemia!

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.
