Genre:  Historical fiction - romance/western

“She knew these memory flashes were frightening her and she wished the whole of it would just come back to her all at once rather than in scary bits and pieces. But there was nothing they could do except keep her mind off her troubles and show her how much they loved her.”

“Fire Blossom” is set in 1843 in a tumultuous time in early US history. The story follows a young woman named Fire Blossom who finds herself in the middle of a violent clash between two very different cultures. She experiences unspeakable tragedy and must find every ounce of strength within herself if she is going to remember her past and survive.

FIre Blossom is a strong, intelligent, and caring young woman enjoying life as the daughter of a Comanche leader. She is in love and betrothed to Lone Wolf, a powerful and respected warrior from a neighboring tribe. Unfortunately, her happiness comes to a sudden and violent end when her tribe is attacked and she is kidnapped. She is almost killed herself, but the family of her abductor come to her aid and nurture her back to health. They soon find that Fire Blossom’s past is not as it seems. She finds herself torn and having to decide which world she is meant to live in - and love in.

This story is filled with the emotional complexities of family, love, and finding oneself. These themes intertwine in a story line that is fast-paced and interesting. The characters are well-developed and the romantic connections are palpable.

This is great story telling.

Fair warning: there are portions of this book that depict terrible and violent acts. It is necessary to the story and the plot, but vivid and disturbing all the same.

Overall, I found myself pleasantly surprised and intrigued by this book. I especially enjoyed the intricacies of the character development. Each character had their own distinctive personality and baggage to match. I appreciated this aspect of realism and the attention paid to it by the author.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

I am not usually into Westerns themes, but this book surpassed my expectation. It was heartfelt, emotional, tragic, and thought provoking. I hope to read more by this author in the future.
