Genre:  Thriller Novel

“As a reporter, she’d learned to study a person’s eyes because they told you a lot about what they’re thinking. Not this one. His eyes gave away nothing, but took away everything— all her plans, all her dreams, and all her hope. It was at that exact moment she knew she’d die today.”

“Killer Blonde” introduces you to Cade Dawkins, an investigator in Minnesota, who finds himself assigned to a case where a serial killer is hunting and murdering beautiful blonde women. Cade must rely on his friends and outsmart the killer if he is going save others from the same terrible fate.

“Killer Blonde” is a classic story of detective vs. killer. The detective in this case, Cade, has previously solved a high profile murder in the area and has gained some notoriety from it. He happens upon seemingly unrelated traffic fatalities which he soon realizes to be connected in more ways than one. Cade investigates the crimes and finds connections to other high profile cases, including some in another city.

The story switches points of view between the detective and the serial killer throughout the book. The change allows insight into the killer’s motivations, desires, intelligence, and twisted view on life and death. It also keeps the story moving at a good pace as you want to know what happens next and if Cade is able to catch the killer before he strikes again.

Fair Warning: There is some adult language and lots of murder…it’s a serial killer story.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel. The different points of view from the cop and the killer give the book an interesting voice with a nice window in to details that may not have been there otherwise. I found the way that Cade tracked the killer and the clues that he found kept me turning the page. However, the killer’s identity is revealed rather early on which I found took away from some of the mystery and desire to read on. A couple of other things also felt a little confusing as well. I actually really love sports, but reading a play by play in the beginning of the story seemed super out of place and much too long. Some of Cade’s acquaintances around the case also seemed to appear and disappear much too quickly. Unfortunately it doesn’t leave you with a connection to many of the ancillary characters. I hope that when more Cade stories come out, the other characters in his stories are also given a chance to shine. I will say that the ending was satisfying, while also setting up the world for future tales.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

A classic tale of cop vs. killer. Interesting point of view changes kept me turning the page but lack of connection to characters left me wanting.
