“Weeping and grieving, I sat on the lawn as the sun warmed my skin and the wind cooled it. On the most beautiful day, the worst things were happening.”

“Seeds of the Dead” follows a pair of brothers at the beginning of a a zombie apocalypse. The brothers must quickly learn how to survive in this new world - and who they should trust. SPOILER ALERT!

“Seeds of the Dead” follows two brothers, Justin and Jeremy, as their lives are thrown into chaos at the beginning of a zombie apocalypse. The book first introduces us to the brothers when their lives are pretty normal. They attend school, hunt with their father, and share an adoration for their caring mother. That all soon ends when their mother is bitten and the boys must quickly fight for their lives as they learn what is happening in the world around them.

Justin quickly decides that his role in this new and terrible world is to keep his naïve, younger brother safe. So he joins forces with his newfound family - Nick: his snarky and determined best friend, Maci: a caring and loving friend from high school, and Tabitha: a girl their age with great survival instincts and even better shooting skills. The little group sets out to try to find safety in Canada, but on their way they encounter countless terrifying dangers- both dead and living nightmares.

Overall, I liked reading this fast-paced story. It was just scary enough to make me think twice about reading it before I dozed off to sleep. I thought the different personalities and banter between Nick, Maci, and Tabitha were well done and entertaining. Tabitha’s character was the most complex and believable. However, I wish that the same attention would have been paid to Justin’s character. I would have liked to see his dilemma and decision making evolve more smoothly from the start to end of the book. As it was, it felt a little forced, unnatural, and over the top. The ending also seemed rushed and unfinished. There are a lot of zombie stories, shows, and movies out there right now and this one is pretty straight forward. I hope that in future stories, the author further develops the main characters and gives the readers a little twist in an over- saturated market.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

This post-apocalyptic zombie tale is action packed but pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, not all of the characters are developed at a pace that is either relatable or believable.
