Heather’s Bookshelf: Love Spells: Crafting Havoc
“Love Spells: Crafting Havoc” follow three young girls, Dizzy, Drew and Tilly, friends who become convinced they have magical powers.
Overall, I was a little torn on this story. There are SO many POVs and characters early on that it’s hard to tell where exactly the tale is headed. It’s not until a few chapters in that it seems to find its way. The story is ultimately a fun one. It’s filled with comic relief, funny little quirky situations, and a fair amount of cringy (in a good way) moments. The amount and quality of the rhymes and spells interwoven into this story was truly magical. I loved reading them and then the shenanigans that ensued afterward. The author’s insinuation about the egocentric teenage girls and how their perception of how they must have magical powers in the way world bent to their every whim was really fun. However, this story was in dire need of some direction. A good majority felt scattered and it begged for some common thread or underlying plotline to tie it all together with purpose and direction. It’s light-hearted and fun, but much too unfocused to allow for a smooth read. The ending was especially open-ended and scattered. There was little finality in the last few pages. Instead, it just seemed to finish out of nowhere.
I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.
OVERALL REVIEW:
A fun, but disjointed tale about friendship, highlighted by entertaining rhymes. Too many POVs and a lack of direction beg for purpose.
