Heather’s Bookshelf: Miranda Nights (A Miranda Quinn Legal Twist Book 2)

Author: Gail Ward Olmsted

Released:  07/06/23

Genre: Contemporary Women’s Fiction

“My show that night went off without a hitch. Twice, I was certain the male caller on the air would go off on me with some warning about my sinful existence, but despite a record number of calls, my stalker stayed silent or must have given up on getting me to repent or whatever.”

“Miranda Nights” is the sequel to Miranda Writes. The review can be found here. This review was done as a standalone. The story takes place two years after the first. Miranda Quinn is hosting her radio show about legal advice, and enjoying married life with her husband Eric and her rescue kitty Hobie.

Everything’s going well until her bestie, Tracey, calls in a panic. She thinks her husband’s cheating on her and one of her twins has been arrested. Miranda tries to help, but the case doesn’t look good. Then she gets a threatening phone call when on air and a menacing message on her windshield…

When the threats escalate to interfering emails, breaking and entering, and worse, her employer puts her show on hold. A family member is hospitalized and the court case for Tracey’s son is not going well either. Miranda’s afraid her whole life is falling apart.

Will she be able to find her stalker and help her friends before it’s too late? Or will the man intent on revenge get his way on his deranged mission of salvation?

Trigger Warning: reference to sexual assault/child pornography, vandalism, stalking, sexual situations, adult language, arson

Overall, I really enjoyed this tale. The story is told through the POV of Miranda with little cuts to the thoughts of the person stalking her. The author does a quick intro interspersed in the protagonist’s thoughts about what happened in the first book, so this one can be easily read alone, but serves as a spoiler if you are thinking of reading the first. Miranda is a well developed character, with clear motivations, desires, and fears. Many of the other ancillary characters are also well developed including Tracey and her twins and several others are also memorable, adding quite a bit to the tale. The pacing of the story is well-done as well and kept me flipping pages to find out what happened at the end. There was quite a bit of suspense as well, with a couple of events in the middle of the tale that had me holding my breath. The ending of the story felt very complete and wrapped up the story. However, I felt a little unsatisfied with the reveal of the stalker and the conclusion. I would love to read more about Miranda and her friends/family in the future.

I received a copy of this story in exchange of a fair and honest review.

OVERALL REVIEW:

A likable protagonist and memorable crew of ancillary characters highlight this well-paced tale.
